Hugh Belsey a graduate of the Universities of Manchester and Birmingham, has
lectured to groups in Europe, America, Australia and Britain. For twenty-three years
he curated Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury where he formed one of the largest
collections of the artist’s work, and in 2004 he was awarded an MBE in recognition of
his museum work. In 2013 he appeared in the BBC series Fake or Fortune? as an
expert witness. Last year he taught PhD students at the University of Melbourne and
gave a paper at the Petit Palais in Paris. In October 2018 an exhibition Gainsborough
and the Theatre opens at the Holburne Museum of Art in Bath and in November, Yale
University Press publish his long-awaited catalogue of portraits by Thomas
Gainsborough.

Over the winter months Hugh Belsey offers a course of illustrated lectures in Aldeburgh, Ipswich, Lavenham and Saffron Walden.
