Hugh Belsey a graduate of the Universities of Manchester and Birmingham, has
lectured to groups in Europe, America, Australia and Britain. For twenty-three years
he curated Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury where he formed one of the largest
collections of the artist’s work and in 2004 he was awarded an MBE in recognition of
his museum work. Since then he has taught at the Universities of Buckingham and
Melbourne. Last year he organised an exhibition Gainsborough and the Theatre at the
Holburne Museum of Art in Bath and in February 2019 Yale University Press published
his catalogue of paintings by Thomas Gainsborough. Over the summer he will appear as
the expert witness in BBC’s Fake or Fortune? and Britain’s Lost Masterpieces for BBC4.

Over the winter months Hugh Belsey offers a course of illustrated lectures in Aldeburgh, Great Bardfield, Ipswich, Lavenham and Saffron Walden.
